There will be a new beach in the middle of Ria Formosa. The work of feeding sand on Cavacos beach, at the Armona beach in Olhão, has already begun and should be completed within two months.
The work is part of the hydrodynamic valorization project of the Armona bar and had to be approved by the Polis Litoral Ria Formosa Society, fulfilling an old desire of the local authority of Olhão.
The new beach will have capacity for 190 people and will have a beach support, according to the Planning Plan of the Coastal Vilamoura-Vila Real de Santo António. The total investment is 150,000 euros.
The new beach is fed through the sediment of the channels of the maneuvering basin of the dock of the island of Armona, which are being removed and allowing better navigability of the channels by the fishermen and more conditions of exploitation of the nurseries.
With this new beach, which is expected to be completed later this summer, the Algarve now has 107 sea and river beaches classified.
